Book Review - Sky Daddy by Kate Folk (No spoilers)
In one singular day, I had the pleasure of digesting the entirety of Sky Daddy by Kate Folk. The concept gripped my interest like a clenched fist - a woman with an obsessive, wildly sexual fixation to airplanes, and dying in a plane crash (which she sees as marriage). At first glance I considered it to be one of those strange romance novels where the protagonist and said inanimate object fall in love, this is not that. Sky Daddy is a deeply psychological story about our dear Linda, who works moderating comments on a stereotypical video sharing platform. The humor is dry, though whenever the subject of these Lovecraftian, metal flying beasts inevitably pop up on the page, the wetness seeps in deliciously, I mean Linda is HORNY for airplanes. I consider myself asexual, but I felt a few things in her numerous tangents about what makes an airplane attractive.
Near the start of the story, and what made me realize that this was not your average book, there is a moment where Linda rides a plane, something she does once a month. She takes a shard of a Boeing 737, pushes it inside her vagina, and proceeds to climax multiple times AS PEOPLE SIT DIRECTLY NEXT TO HER. At that moment I tossed the book across my room and contemplated every decision I'd ever made in my life, before deftly standing up, placing the book back into my lap and continuing on. I felt like Odysseus travelling through the treacherous sea getting through this book.
While Sky Daddy has a slow take off, and cruises smoothly, the ending is like the plane crashes that Linda daydreams about. I grew a little weary, that Kate Folk was perhaps being too safe. I wanted her to let loose, and allow the absurdity to take the driver's seat as restraint is tossed out the window. It felt almost too typical, and right as I dared to grow bored, Kate Folk clutched onto my neck, and dragged me across concrete with the last 80 or so pages. In vague terms, she sticks the landing, even if the entire plane is engulfed in flames. The chaos reins supreme, and every page is harder to get through - not because it is bad, but because it is like a violent, several-car-pileup on a highway. It's scandalous, terrifying, dreadful, and I was in love. The ending will be love it or hate it for everyone, the ambiguity could certainly be a turn-off like smooth flights are to our dear Linda, but perhaps that is the beauty of a story like this.
Sky Daddy impressed me, and I am certain in my decision to give it a 9/10.

7/13/2026 - Hello World!
I made a blog! I don't really know what I'm going to put here, but I am going to brainstorm as I type this while listening to sad indie rock (Neutral Milk Hotel).
So, currently I'm thinking I divide this place - once I figure out how to do that - between posts about my own life, and writings that I am working on. I heard that Andy Weir, the Author of Project Hail Mary, self-published his debut novel, The Martian, on his blog for his readers. I'd love to do something like that with my own debut novel, which I've been posting to AO3. But I am a little worried with the content of my book. Note to self: find out what the rules of this site are before you post your goliath novel on surviving abuse and the trauma that follows.
Perhaps a tag to differentiate between personal updates and writings. Something like that, but I also have no idea how to use this site, and I hope it comes with no cost because I am flat out broke. Like I've got maybe 40 bucks to my name, which is sad. Being 18 and having 40 bucks to your name is a little depressing, but I'm learning not to be so hard on myself, and that I should probably stop spending my money on things I don't need.
My personal life goal to be famous hasn't been going well, but little steps are what counts. I don't even think I'd like to be famous because it sounds stressful, but also I feel like if I don't do something big with my life, once I reach the end of it I will be sorrily disappointed in myself. Maybe one of my songs will go viral on TikTok, but that won't happen if I don't post any of the songs I've worked on. I'm a horrible perfectionist which sort of combines with my ADHD thus making me extremely unproductive.
Who am I? Well my high school final project says that I'm a passionate and kind individual. But I feel like everybody says that. My favorite movie is Fantastic Mr. Fox, it's kind of my thing right now. If someone brings it up to me, it's like I'm a failing dam - I sort of burst, I will start to talk about it, and I will not stop until someone begs me to, or until I become self aware to my own foolishness and slowly go quiet, hoping I didn't completely embarrass myself. I do love to talk however, its one of my favorite things to do, but in my current situation, I don't have a lot of people to talk to. Which is why I'm making this blog! Maybe if I put my words out there, someone will read them, and that's all I really want.
